Automate the Proxy Prefix with a Bookmarklet (Chrome)

Instead of copying and pasting the proxy phrase every single time you'd like to check for access, automate the action of prepending your url!

Make a bookmark out of the proxy prefix! Simply add a new bookmark or 'favoriteit with the following javascript code as the url:

javascript:void(location='https://cooperunion.idm.oclc.org/login?url=%27+location)

Do the Following:

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Click the "Bookmarks" dropdown menu
  3. Click "Bookmark Manager"
  4. Click the kebab/three dot menu button usually located the the top-righthand corner of the screen
  5. Click "Add new bookmark" 
  6. Fill out the information in the following way--
    • Name: [whatever you'd like to call it]
    • URL: javascript:void(location='https://cooperunion.idm.oclc.org/login?url=%27+location)
  7. Select "Save"

Keyboard Shortcut for the Bookmarklet (Chrome)

Want to automate the proxy prefix at the stroke of a few keys? Make a keyboard shortcut to easily route any page through Cooper's subscriptions.

The Following steps are required:

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Click the "Google" dropdown menu
  3. Select "Preferences"
  4. On the lefthand side the screen, select the tab "Search engine"
  5. Select the tab for "Manage search engines"
  6. Locate a section of this page called "Other search engines" and click the "Add" button to its right
  7. Fill out the the information in the following way--
    • Search Engine: [does not matter]
    • Keyword: [the keyboard shortcut you'd like to use]
    • URL with %s in place of query: javascript:window.location.href='https://cooperunion.idm.oclc.org/login?url='+window.location.href;
  8. Select "Save"

To check for access to an article, now you can simply Select a URL inside your Address Bar and use your new Keyboard Shortcut
