Many of the questions we answer here in the archives have to do with genealogy - maybe a researcher has a family member who went to school here, or taught here, and want more information; or maybe they heard a story about them going here, and just want some proof. We don't always have the material that researchers are looking for, but we always have resources to share with them. Genealogy - the study of family history - is a major field of archival study, and technology has exponentially increased access to materials that can help genealogical researchers.
In our continued quest to make archival research easy and accessible, we've created a guide to conducting genealogical research. It's designed specifically for finding family connections in NYC, but many of the resources - like newspapers.com, for example - could also be used to search for family all over the U.S. and beyond.
