Simply paste the proxy phrase in front of any URL, and you will be routed through Cooper Union's access to it.

Example: Accessing an article from offsite

While researching I have come across an article I'd like to read. However, when I go to the link
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1531-314X.2011.01186.x I am taken to the publisher's website, which asks me to purchase it, or login.

Instead I will paste the proxy phrase in front of the url: https://cooperunion.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1531-314X.2011.01186.x

And I am automatically routed through Cooper's subscription and can download it! Yay!

Automate the automation!

Instead of copying and pasting the proxy phrase every single time you'd like to check for access, automate the action of prepending your url! We suggest two ways of doing this.

Bookmark It

Make a bookmark automated action (what is called a 'bookmarklet') out of the prepend. Simply add a new bookmark or favoriteit with the following javascript code as the url:

javascript:void(location='https://cooperunion.idm.oclc.org/login?url=%27+location)

For Chrome the following steps are required:

1. Open Chrome
2. Click the "Bookmarks" dropdown menu
3. Click "Bookmark Manager"
4. Click the kebab/three dot menu button usually located the the top-righthand corner of the screen
5. Click "Add new bookmark" 
6. Fill out the information in the following way--
   • Name: [whatever you'd like to call it]
   • URL: javascript:void(location='https://cooperunion.idm.oclc.org/login?url=%27+location)
7. Select "Save"

Keyboard Shortcut it (on Chrome)

Make a keyboard shortcut to easily route any page through CU's subscriptions. Simply select any url and input your own keyboard to check for CU Access to any item.

The Following steps are required:

1. Open Chrome
2. Click the "Google" dropdown menu
3. Select "Preferences"
4. On the lefthand side the screen, select the tab "Search engine"
5. Select the tab for "Manage search engines"
6. Locate a section of this page called "Other search engines" and click the "Add" button to its right
7. Fill out the the information in the following way--
   • Search Engine: [does not matter]
   • Keyword: [the keyboard shortcut you'd like to use]
   • URL with %s in place of query: javascript:window.location.href='https://cooperunion.idm.oclc.org/login?url='+window.location.href;
8. Select "Save"
