The Cooper Union Library works closely with our colleagues in the neighborhood branches of the New York Public Library, especially the Ottendorfer Branch Library and the Tompkins Square Branch Library. During the current COVID-19 health emergency, only the Tompkins Branch is open, but you can check here for periodic updates or to find a branch near you.

Regardless of your residency, all Cooper Union students, faculty and staff are eligible for an NYPL library card, which not only gives you access to their extensive print collections, but also enables you to access a wide array of remote resources

Sign up for an NYPL card today and let us know if you have any questions.

  • There will be a large red bin located just inside the library during library hours. Simply place your book or books in the bin (gently, please!).
  • If you have a book you need to return and the library is closed, the same red bin will be located just outside the library entrance. Please place your books in a paper bag, write your name on the bag, using one of the markers provided and gently place the book(s) in the bin.
  • Don't worry if the book belongs to another library, we will make sure it gets back to its proper place.
