The Cooper Union Library belongs to the Research Library Association of South Manhattan, a consortium established with NYU and The New School in 1977. This Consortium shares a Catalog (BobCat) and provides students and faculty of member institutions with access to each other's collections.
Cooper Union students and faculty may borrow items at consortium libraries at NYU, The New School, and the New York School of Interior Design. For any restricted or licensed electronic resource, you must be on site at the other library, unless Cooper also has a license.
To avoid unnecessary back and forth, be sure that your library account is in good standing before going to the other libraries. Log in to your account, stop by our Circulation Desk, or contact us for more information.
For HSS4, these Consortium libraries would be particularly useful:
NYPL includes libraries in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Queens Public Library and Brooklyn Public Library are separate, but affiliated, systems, and have separate catalogs.
NYPL Databases are available from home. NYPL has made it possible to get a “library card” without actually needing the physical card and they have negotiated a deal to make JSTOR available online (before you needed to be sitting in a physical branch).
